Next steps for JCC international students
Congratulations on your acceptance to Jamestown Community College! We are excited to welcome you to campus. You have a few more steps to work on to ensure the transition is as easy as possible for your arrival.

- Refer to these articles to help you prepare for your interview:
- Pay your I-901 SEVIS fee. When you pay the fee, be sure to retain a copy of the receipt. You will need to pay the fee and have the receipt for your student visa interview.
- Complete the New Resident Housing Application and License Agreement to secure housing and select your weekly meal plan.
- All residential housing suites include a kitchen and students should plan to supplement any meal plans with food purchased from the grocery store and prepared in their room.
- Proof of health insurance is not required for international students. You will be automatically enrolled in the SUNY health insurance plan.
- Pay your housing deposit using Flywire. Ensure that SUNY Jamestown Community College - FSA Residence Life is selected as the recipient.

Complete all immunization requirements through Health Services.
Health insurance is required. All international students are automatically enrolled in the SUNY health insurance plan and charged by semester.
All students will be billed for the spring/summer rate as many international students stay in the U.S. over the summer months. At the end of the spring term, if a student has proof of returning to their home country for the summer, a refund can be requested.
2023-24 insurance rates:
- Fall: $969.84
- Spring/summer: $1,350.16
All international students need to complete placement testing for English and math. This is not an entrance or pass/fail test. This helps determine the courses in which the student is best prepared to begin. We utilize a proctoring service for you to take your placement testing virtually.
Contact Wendy Burns for instructions on how to schedule and take your placement test. Once placement testing is completed, you will be assisted to set up a zoom appointment with your advisor to register for classes.
All international students are required to pay their first semester bill in full before arrival.
Once you have completed your housing application with deposit and registered for courses, you will see charges to your account. Your health insurance charges will also be listed.
To view your bill:
- Go to Banner.
- Enter your username (smithab01) or JCC email (smithab01@517b2b.com), depending on the prompt, and your password.
New students: Your initial password is your birth date in MMDDYY format (ex. 012490).
Current students: If you forgot your password, select the Forgot Password? link. To change your password, select Change your MyJCC password and follow the prompts. - Select Student.
- Select Student Account.
- Select View Your Bill.
- Select the term you want to view.
- Confirm your legal name.
- Complete the Student Financial Responsibility Form (FRA) for this term.
- Once completed, you will be able to view your bill.
How to pay your international bill:
- After you view your bill in Banner, click on the link at the bottom of the bill titled, Click here to access Nelnet.
- You will be redirected to Nelnet Business Solutions. You will create an account on your first visit. Afterward, you will be automatically logged in when you access the site through Banner.
- Select Make a Payment.
- Select amount to pay, check the box, then click Next - Payment Method.
- Choose International Payment under payment method.
- Follow the steps to proceed to Flywire or Convera. A pop-up will potentially appear choose the option to click here - do not continue to homepage.
- You will be redirected to Flywire or Convera to finalize your payment.
While students may enter the U.S. 30 days before their program start date, move-in for international students will be no earlier than a week before classes start and you should arrive no later than the date listed as Program Start on the I20.

Once you have booked your flight, complete the International Student Arrival Survey. Global Learning will communicate with you further based on the information you provide. Please do not come to campus without having coordinated your arrival with Global Learning.
You will participate in two different orientation sessions.
Pre-departure orientation:
- All admitted students and their parent/sponsor will be required to participate in a virtual orientation session before your arrival.
- This orientation will cover in-depth information on the outlined next steps. You will get to speak directly with our staff regarding housing, course registration, billing, and health services.
- Details on registering for this session will be sent to you by Global Learning.
On-campus orientation:
- Before classes start, you will participate in an on-campus orientation.
- Details will be sent out by Global Learning close to your arrival.
